ROSEMONT, PA – If one thing has remained constant from last season to now, it’s Agnes Irwin’s ability to score.

“We do best when we are unselfish with the ball,” said AIS senior Emily Wills, who scored three goals against visiting Germantown Academy this past Tuesday.

AIS vs. GA Game Highlights:

That unselfishness Wills speaks of definitely proved to be effective as the Owls defeated the Lady Patriots 21-6, improving to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Inter-Ac.

AIS Goals: Marissa White 6, Emily Wills 3, Natalie Corkran 3, Natalie Pansini 3, Kacy Hogarth 2, Brynn Ammerman 2, Cate Parcells 1, Katherine Ernst 1.

GA Goals: Elise Smigiel 2, Maddie Burns 2, Cassidy Palazzo 1, Mackenzie Smith 1.

“We have just been focusing on playing fast and playing aggressively. That’s what we worked on yesterday in practice, our more aggressive defense and transitioning the ball quickly. I think that really translated into the game. That was definitely a key offensively because we were moving the ball really quick and finding open feeds inside,” said Agnes Irwin head coach Lauren Wray. “Because we are eight games in now, the girls are starting to connect, which is nice to see. I think we just have to continue to play our game, we can’t focus on EA too much. We have to be mindful of what they do well and try to take those things away offensively. I think if we can continue to play aggressively and play our game offensively we will be in good shape.”

“Today was not how I expected it would go and my players said the same thing. I think we just need to work on our nerves. That was our biggest thing today. We dropped the ball and popped it up all over the place. So, our transition and keeping possession of the ball are things we have to work on,” said Germantown Academy head coach Mary Dean.

AIS senior Emily Wills talks about keys to success in the Owls victory vs. GA:

GA seniors Zoe Torrey & Charlotte Rapp talk about what went well & team improvements:

Both Wray and Dean are in their second season at the helm of their respective squads. Both coaches were asked to complete the following sentence in reference to their second season in the Inter-Ac….

In my second year as head coach I hope to win the Inter-Ac and PAISAA. That’s the goal every year.  – said Wray.

In my second year as head coach I hope to teach my players confidence all over the field. I hope to teach them that the mental part of the game is just as important, if not more important, than the physical aspect. I also hope to have a winning record. – said Dean.

Looking Ahead: Agnes Irwin will host Episcopal Academy (6-0 overall, 3-0 Inter-Ac) on Thursday at 3:30 PM.  Germantown Academy will resume league play on Friday at home vs. the Academy of Notre Dame at 3:30 PM.
