MALVERN, PA – Malvern Prep pulled away from Germantown Academy in the second half to win, 10-4, last Thursday afternoon at the Pellegrini Complex. After going into the locker room leading 4-2, the Friars outscored the Patriots 6-2 in the second half. The Friars got off to a 3-0 lead with goals from junior midfielder Jack Jogerst, senior attack Evan Lotz and junior midfielder Cade Szostek.

The Patriots then cut the deficit to one on goals from freshman attack Jack Luviano and senior midfielder Gunnar Bogorowski in the second quarter. Sophomore attack Eric Spanos then gave the Friars a 4-2 lead heading into halftime.

The Friars got second half goals from Lotz, Spanos, Szostek, sophomore attack Nick Potemski, junior attack Champ Doyle and senior defender Sean Rushton.

The Friars made less mistakes in the second half, which allowed them to pull away from the Patriots.

“I just think we were really sloppy,” said Malvern Prep head coach McEvoy. “It wasn’t the defense that let up two goals necessarily. I think it was how we didn’t play offense. It was really more reflective of that. Second half, we did a better job of playing more offense and using all six guys. We were rushing too much in the first half. Our possessions were really short. We couldn’t get the ball back.”

Germantown Academy failed to possess the ball in the second half. Senior attack Wills Jordan scored the Patriots' only second half goal in the fourth quarter.

“We just didn’t have any possessions on offense,” said GA head coach Billy McKinney. “We played too much defense. In the third quarter, we probably had the ball for about a minute of the 12-minute quarter. They only scored two goals, but it really took the gas out of our tanks in the defensive unit.”

Malvern Prep senior Evan Lotz talks about getting the win on senior day, gives advice to underclassmen & talks about how playing LAX for Malvern Prep has made him into the player an person he is today:

Malvern Prep vs. Germantown Academy Goals by Evan Lotz & GA's Wills Jordan:

Malvern Prep honored its 17 seniors on Senior Day before the game. Three of the seniors were goalies Colin McDonnell, Colin Corrigan and Will Pettit. All three received playing time because of the special occasion. McDonnell started the game and made one save in the first quarter. Corrigan played in the second and third quarters and saved six shots and allowed two goals. Pettit finished the game at goal and made four saves and allowed two goals.  McEvoy usually does not like playing three goalies in one game, but he made an exception to honor his three goalkeepers.

“Our senior class is really a tight group of guys,” said Lotz. “We’ve been playing with each other a bunch since middle school. We have really good chemistry this year, especially with the whole team. It was definitely a great environment and great to be out there with our guys for the last time.”

With this win, Malvern Prep improves to 2-1 in Inter-Ac play.

Next up in Inter-Ac play, the Friars head to Penn Charter this Friday at 4:00 p.m. The Patriots will also be on the road against the Haverford School this Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
