PHILADELPHIA- Malvern Prep scored five consecutive goals in the first half to beat William Penn Charter, 11-6, Friday afternoon at Perrott Turf Field. After the Friars got two goals from junior attack Colin McGill to start the game, the Quakers responded with two goals of their own from senior midfielder Nick DiCicco and sophomore attack Tone DeMarco. Then, Friars senior midfielder Evan Waitte gave Malvern Prep a lead they would never relinquish.

McGill led the Friars with five goals on the day. Junior attack Champ Doyle added two goals. Sophomore attack Will Peden, junior midfielder Colin Hueston and senior attack Evan Lotz also added goals.

“I really don’t think we have any real stars on our team,” said Malvern Prep head coach John McEvoy. “There’s not one guy that we can just say ‘hey, go win us a game.’ We can be pretty good if we play all six of us and we move the ball and play hard. Each week this season, we seemed to get a little better at that.”

After making the score 2-2, the Quakers' offense could not keep up with Malvern Prep’s. The Quakers only tallied one goal in the second quarter. Junior midfielder Dean Bleiler scored with 1:54 left in the second quarter to cut the Friars’ lead to 7-3. DeMarco led the Quakers with three goals. Sophomore attack Conor McKee also added a goal.

Malvern Prep junior Colin McGill talks about his team's shift in momentum and preparing to face zone coverage:

Friars senior goalie Will Pettit saved eight shots, while Quakers senior goalie Carson Marano made 13 saves.

“I think we’ve been on a roll these last few games,” said McGill. “I think the offense and defense finally clicked. I think that we didn’t really have trouble shooting today at all. I think people were 100 percent, so I think that’s what changed the game.”

With the win, Malvern Prep improves to 3-1in Inter-Ac play.

Next up in Inter-Ac play, the Friars will go to Springside Chestnut Hill Academy tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. The Quakers will play Germantown Academy on the road tomorrow also at 4:00 p.m.
