RADNOR, PA—Cabrini University was host to the first Inter-Academic Lacrosse Semifinal playoffs on Friday, May 17.

Defending Inter-Ac Champs, the Malvern Prep Friars faced off against the Churchmen of Episcopal Academy in the first of the night’s double header.

Malvern’s Colin Houston scored first for the Friars followed by goal from EA’s Rowan Brumbaugh.  The Churchmen tied it up once again 3-3 in the second quarter, but it was Malvern who rallied to maintain a 4-point lead (7-3) going into the half. Despite the pouring rain, EA did not let up on offense.

Brumbaugh scored in the fourth quarter cutting the deficit by 3 with Malvern leading 9-6. But it was Malvern who would win the match beating the Churchmen 10-8.

In the second semifinal game of the night, the Quakers of Penn Charter gave it their all against the Haverford School.

It was an intense back and forth goal-scoring match. The Fords took a 3-1 lead early in the first quarter, but that did not last long as the Quakers tied it 3-3 going into the second quarter.

By the half, the game was tied at 6.

It was PC’s Gavin Tygh who led the match in face-off’s and tied the game 7 all going into the final quarter.

The Fords scored two more times before Tygh’s hat trick with 13 seconds left on the clock.

The nail-biting 9-8 victory for the Fords will bring them back to familiar territory once again as they face Malvern Prep in the Championship Final tonight at Cabrini’s Dixon Field. Game time is at 7 p.m.
