ROSEMONT, PA-- An early 1-0 deficit did not discourage the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCHA) Blue Devils when they traveled to take on the Agnes Irwin Owls in Inter-Ac League soccer action Friday, September 13th.

Despite a little miscommunication to start, the Blue Devils came back and defeated Agnes Irwin, 5-1.

“The first goal was given up on a lack of communication,” said junior goalkeeper Julia Wilbekaitis. “I made sure to know where all of my defenders were.”

SCHA improved to 3-1 on the season with this result. The Owls slipped to 3-1-1.

Junior forward Alyssa Hardin and senior forward Natalie Pansini are off to a remarkable start for Agnes Irwin this season. They kept their momentum going as Pansini registered the first goal of the afternoon off of a feed by Hardin just 6:11 into the competition.

“It was amazing to get the first goal,” said Hardin. “We were all really compassionate about it."

The Blue Devils fought back from that point onward. Senior forward Madison Niebash tied the game. Junior midfielder JoJo McShane gave her team a permanent lead. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Sullivan added a goal with 3:19 remaining in the opening half.

“Getting that goal brought the energy back up to where it should be,” said Niebash.

With plenty of time still left on the clock, McShane tallied another goal midway through the second period.

Freshman midfielder Mary Trudeau also added to the lead with only 1:14 to go.

Staying organized and keeping up communication played key roles as Wilbekaitis and her teammates on defense did not give up any more goals.

“Moving forward with this team, I’m really confident in all of the positions we have,” said McShane.

“In previous years, one player was the star doing everything. This year, I feel confident in having all the girls on the bench in the game. We work as a team really, really well.”

Agnes Irwin is also noticing significant improvement early in this new season. The Owls are extremely tight knit and it’s paying off .

"Last year we did not have the best season, but we are already seeing so much improvement. I think we are going to play so much better this year and we are all so excited for it," said Hardin.
