IMMACULATA, PA – For the first time since 2014, the William Penn Charter girls’ soccer squad won the PAISAA state championship. The Quakers only needed one goal to seal the title and beat Westtown 1-0 on Wednesday night at Immaculata University.

Sophomore Kaila Rahn turned out to be the hero for the Quakers scoring the goal on a corner with ten minutes left in the first half.

“It’s definitely a moment I will never forget,” said Rahn. “It was really overwhelming but I’ll never forget it and everyone got so excited and it’s a good feeling.”

Westtown had multiple opportunities to score but stellar defending from the entire defense, including senior goalkeeper Riley McDade, turned out to be the difference to keep a clean sheet.

“It’s my last soccer game ever after playing for 12 years,” said McDade. It’s a tough pill to swallow but it’s a great way to end my career.”

“I know I never get high fives when the team scores because they’re so far away, I was jumping up and down screaming,” added McDade about Rahn’s goal. “Our fans were cheering for me and everyone and we just get super excited no matter what.”

With the win, the William Penn Charter Quakers win the PAISAA title for the first time since beating Germantown Academy 3-1 in 2014.

William Penn Charter head coach Darci Spencer was thrilled for her team to earn the thrilling victory.

“I feel so happy and excited for my team,” said Spencer. “We played really well and it was a hard fought game and I’m proud of the effort of both teams and we’re really excited to win the state championship.”

“When Kaila scored that goal, it was just pure excitement,” added Spencer. “We had several opportunities to score before that but it was great to get that.”

Penn Charter compiled a 7-3 Inter-Ac league record during the regular season. The Quakers defeated Agnes Irwin 6-2 and Episcopal Academy 3-0 to land in the PAISAA championship finale.
