There’s only two Sunday’s left until the final Flyers Cup brackets are released for 2021 and the competition is growing fierce. 

APAC play is stacking up for postseason play and announced its preparations for the annual Founder’s Cup tournament. The APAC will host semi-final games on March 29 at Grundy Arena, with the APAC finals being hosted by the highest remaining seed on March 31.

On Monday, the Flyers Cup committee released its final power rankings during the 2021 regular season.

The AAA rankings remain the same with the APAC taking the first four spots, and Roman Catholic coming in at number 5. The Flyers Cup selection show will take place on March 28 and will be hosted on the Flyers Cup YouTube channel. 

“We know we have a target on our back every time we play,” Donatucci said. “We just have to keep going.”

The first period started out quite slow as the players found their feet on the ice. There was no signs of a one-side game until the Friars created commotion near the Hawks goal at the end of the first. Malvern Prep’s Jack Costabile flustered St. Joe’s Prep goaltender, Rocco Bruno, with a goal under a minute to play. 

With one step up on St. Joe’s, the Friars were ready for some more heat. Costabile managed a stealthy corner shot within the first three minutes of the second period. Anthony Perti was in net for the Friars and faced 18 shots from St. Joe’s Prep. Three minutes following Costabile’s second tally of the game, Johnathan Holt shot the puck from the high slot to put the Friars up by three. Malvern Prep chalked the score up with another last second goal by Matt Harris sparing five seconds in the second period. 

With a whole period to go in the game, the Friars denied the Hawk’s offense until getting caught off-guard. Dominic Fantozzi found his way to the back of the net for St. Joe’s lone goal of the afternoon. The Friars ended the game with a 4-1 victory.

“After losing against La Salle, we knew we’d have to come out strong,” Donatucci said. “We got a little sloppy at the end, but we worked on defending tactics like layers, fore check and third guy high which really helped us tonight.”

The loss snapped a four game winning streak for the Cahillites, but Roman Catholic still leads Cardinal O’Hara by three points in the PCL standings.
