READING, PA – The lights of Friday night shined bright on the Friars of Malvern Prep in their non-league match-up against the Saints of Berks Catholic. The Friars dominated on the road for most of the game en route to a 37-7 victory.

Things got off to a competitive start in the first quarter. Malvern Prep opened up the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run by junior Isaiah Wright. Berks Catholic would answer right back with a rushing TD of their own off a 3-yard rush from sophomore Josiah Jordan, ending a 9-quarter scoreless streak for the Friars defense.

After the first quarter ended in a draw, the Friars decided to turn things up a notch and score 30 unanswered points. Sophomore Yaahdir Nash moved the score to 14-7 with a 14-yard TD run in the second quarter. Wright would find the end zone for a second time on a 35-yard run to push the score to 20-7.

The Friars came out kicking in the second half. Literally, as they increased their lead to 23-7 on a 26-yard field goal by senior kicker Jacob Reid. Later in the third quarter, Wright tallied his third touchdown of the day on a 9-yard rush.

Not giving up, the Saints tried to rally after an end zone interception off Malvern’s back-up quarterback Bryce Pippin by Berks Catholic freshman Marvin Armistead. This was Armistead’s first game back from injury. Fortunately for the Friars, there was no comeback brewing.

In the final quarter, the Friars piled on with a 2-yard rushing TD by senior Anthony Czarzasty, making it a 30-point lead. The score would end that way as the Saints rushed down the field late to no avail as the clock ran out.

The Friars secured their third straight win, improving their record to 3-1 on the season.

The man with the hat trick touchdown-wise, Isaiah Wright, had 15 rush attempts for 112 yards. When asked what sparked his performance, Wright praised his offensive line.

“It starts with our O-Line. They work their butts off every day at practice,” said Wright.
