TRACK & FIELD: The Inter-Ac and Friends Schools League Ended Their Seasons with History-Making Performances at the PAISAA State Championship

Penn Charter and Episcopal Academy Win Both State and League Titles

Sports photographer Patty Morgan has turned her enthusiasm and knowledge for track and field into a life-long passion. She continues to showcase both indoor and outdoor events at the high school and collegiate level bringing visual appreciation to these stellar student athletes through her lens. Morgan wanted to do more to highlight this sport and its athletes. Through her column, On Track with Patty Morgan, she hopes to give audiences a more personal experience to the hard work, training, and dedication of these athletes. 

MALVERN, PA-- The Pennsylvania Independent School's Athletic Association (PAISAA) Track and Field Championship was held on a sweltering Saturday, May 21st at Malvern Prep.

The team titles went to the ladies of William Penn Charter who earned a total of 136.50 points with Episcopal Academy taking 2nd with 112 and Friends Central was third with 61.  

Episcopal Academy took the boys' title, the first ever in program history, with 111.50, second was Malvern Prep with 86 and rounding out the top three was The Haverford School with 71. 

Penn Charter Win both State and League Titles.

Top finishers for the girls from Penn Charter were as follows …Freshman Alli DeLisi set a personal best in the 1600m with 4:59.69 and a third-place finish in the 800m with 2:21.12. She has had an amazing freshman year also running a PR 5:02.62 for 13th place in the mile against some of the top runners in the country at the prestigious Penn Relays Carnival back in April. 

Olivia Montini was first in the 3200m 11:36.20. Both times she’s run this distance this season she earned the first-place spot. At the Inter-Ac league championships, she ran the 800m 2:24.63 and the 1600m 5:22.02 earning personal best marks in both events. 

Dani Shipon earned 5th in 400m finals 1.01.03 and 4th in the 800m 2.21.12. 

Michaela Poland earned the top spot in the 400m with a time of 58.87.

Julia Dolce placed 3rd in the 1600m 5:22.09 & 6th place in the 800m 2:21.58.

Veronica Lentz and Amanda Ehrenhalt both scored for the Quakers in the 100mh with 4th and 6th places respectively.  Ehrenhalt took the top spot in the 300h with a PR 44.62.

The Quakers earned the top spot in the 4x800m relay with 10:19.19 and were 2nd in the 4x100m & 4x400m relays 

Olivia Roland placed 4th in high jump with 5-00 and Cassidy Scott was 2nd in Triple jump 33-07.05 and 5th in long jump 16-02. 25.  Mariah Mays was 2nd in discus 94-11.00 and 3rd in shot put 31-06.50. 

On Saturday May 14th, Penn Charter also won the 2022 Inter-Ac Track and Field Title with a total of 166.5 points. This was the Quakers first Inter-Ac title in 12 years.

Episcopal Academy came in 2nd with a total score of 135.5 followed by Germantown Academy with a score of 81.

More notable performances

Friends' Central School's  Avery Lewis had a stellar day taking 1st place in the 100m 11.51 and 1st in the 200m 24.13. In the prelims of the 100m, Lewis ran a PR 11.42 placing her PA#2! She also currently holds the PA#2 spot in the 200m 24.01. She’s PA#1 in long jump with her amazing leap at The Penn Relays Carnival of 19-10.25. 

Germantown Academy senior Moforehan Abinusawa ran right with Lewis in the 100m for PA#4 spot and 2nd place PR 11.58! She also ran 200m 24.47 and currently holds the PA#4 spot. 

Episcopal Academy's Saige Forbes placed 3rd in the 100m with a time of 12.00 and in the 200m with a time of 26.31.

Germantown Friends School’s Anna Macdonald ran right with Penn Charter's DeLisi in the 1600m for most of the race earning 2nd 5:07.55.

Germantown Friends School's Annika Marcelis was 2nd in the 3200m 11:51.07. Marcelis ran a 2k steeplechase back in April at The New York relays earning 6th place 8:19.25.  The first time I saw Marcelis compete in a PAISAA Championship was when she was an 8th grader and she earned 3rd place in the cross-country championships at Belmont Plateau.

Sabrina Imes of Shipley School earned 1st in TJ 38-04.75 and 3rd in long jump. In the prelims of the 100m she ran a PR 13.06

Academy of Notre Dame’s Emma McGuinn was 1st in 100mh with a PR 14.87 and tie for PA#6! McGuinn was also 6th in 300mh. 

Friends' Central School's Miracle Price ran a PR 800m 2:11.90 and PA#3!

First State Championship in Program History for the Churchmen

Top finishers for The Episcopal Academy were as follows…. Sophomore Michael Woolery ran a PR 4:22.16 1600m placing 1st and also won the 800m with 1:57.97.  He claimed the title in the Inter-Ac League championships the week before.  Junior Aidan McHugh claimed victory in the 3200m 10:14.62 and earned 3rd place in the 800m 1:58.95.   Senior Mekhi Rogers earned points in multiple events for his team was 2nd in long jump 22-06.00, he was 5th in the triple jump with 41-6, he was 2nd in 200m with 22.35 and ran a PR 11.00 in the 100m for 5th place.  Episcopal won the 4x800m and 4x400m relays and placed 4th in the 4x100m relay earning points towards their team victory in all three relays.

Episcopal Academy also claimed the Inter-Ac Track and Field title on May 14th with total of 184.25 points. This was EA's first Inter-Ac title win in 43 years!

"This year's victory is the first official Inter-Ac Championship since 1979!" said EA head coach Zach Richards. "The seniors have been leading the way since they were sophomores and helped us navigate through the COVID-19 years, motivated the team to continue training, and focused on this goal of winning an Inter-Ac title down the road."

Malvern Prep came in second with a total of 98.75 points followed by Haverford School with 79 points.

Malvern Prep senior D’Angelo Stocker (Univ. Of Richmond commit for football) won the100m 10.60 earning the PA #3 spot and was also the 200m winner with 22.07.  Stocker currently holds the PA#12 spot with his 200m 21.81 performance at Inter-Ac league championships.  The Friars were tops in the 4x100m relay with 43.00 PA#15.  Max Robinson was tops in pole vault with 14-04.00. He PR’d last week at the Inter-Ac championship with 14-6.  

Graham Greene of Germantown Friends claimed the top spot in the 300h with 40.51 with his PR coming last week at FSL Champs 40.14! Greene was 10th in the 200m with 24.02. He earned the top spot at the Friends League championship with a PR time of 23.38! 

Joshua Allen of the Haverford School was high jump winner with 6-04 and also claimed the top spot in triple jump with 46-05.00!. He beat SCH’s Henry Banks Brandstadter on jumps. Allen is currently in a three-way tie for PA#4 after his PR jump of 6-6 at the  Inter-Ac championships.

Springside Chestnut Hill Academy's Banks-Brandstadter capped off his Inter-Ac career with a PR 10.93 4th place finish in the 100m, 2nd place high jump of 6-4 and finally a PR leap of 22-2.5 in long jump.  

The Haverford School had a 1st Colin Campbell-Williams and 2nd place Andre Innis winners in the 400m.  The Fords also claimed 1st place in the shot put in Patrick Donaher with a toss of 55-07.00. Second place went to Alphonso Koukou from Episcopal Academy 51-03.25 and rounding out the top three was Matt McTamney from Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 47-04.00. McTamney was also 3rd in discus 133-04.00 behind 2nd place Germantown Academy's Gavin Fountain and the 1st place winner of Darrion Rascoe from Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.
