PHILADELPHIA -  It was an exciting evening at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy as the Haverford School traveled to play the Blue Devils for an Inter-Ac boys soccer match. These two teams brought tons of energy to this divisional rivalry game, which ultimately ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

During the first half, Haverford dominated the field having most of the possession and scored the only goal of the half. Sophomore forward Luca Aloi scored on a free kick to give the Fords a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Coming into the second half both, schools brought their tenacity and ferocity. Right when everyone thought Haverford would run away with this game, Springside got a chance at a free kick to tie the game.

SCH senior forward Daniel Heep took the free kick but it was blocked by Haverford’s goalkeeper, Connor Cresswell. Then senior defender for Springside, Idy Watt, passed the deflection to junior midfielder Zayd Deveaux, who scored the goal for the Blue Devils to tie the game, 1-1.

Colin Woehlcke, a senior midfielder for Springside, was happy coming away with a tie against a talented Haverford team.

“This means a lot. It means that we can play with anyone in the state, we can do well in the rest of the Inter-Academic league and even the state tournament,” said Woehlcke.

He also spoke on how he intends to finish his senior season as a Blue Devil.

“It is an emotional one, it is the last ride. We want to finish strong and we want to give it the best of our ability,” said Woehlcke.

After the game, SCH head coach Brian Zalasky spoke on his expectations coming into this game.

“My expectations for this game was for us to really give them a good fight. We are coming off a win against Germantown Academy earlier this week 1-0, Germantown being reigning Inter-Ac champions. So anytime you can beat a quality side like that, you must have quality in your side,” said Zalasky.

Overall, Haverford School head coach Keith Cappo was proud of his team's energy and intensity - By Anthony Lee and Darien Calixte

SCH senior Colin Woehlcke and head coach Brian Zalasky address key takeaways vs. game against Haverford School

Haverford School head coach Keith Cappo talked about the performance of his team on the field against Springside Chestnut Hill and his expectations on winning the Inter-Ac title this year.

“We were okay, some good, some bad. I think overall we had good energy levels, good intensity, good work rate, and little things here and there. We have to adjust to be a bit better next time to come away with a win. That was a very good team we played against, it is not easy to play away and to be able to come away with a point is important for us to try to win the title for us this year,” said Cappo.
