PHILADELPHIA -  In a rematch of last year’s PAISAA state championship game, Inter-Ac rivals William Penn Charter and Springside Chestnut Hill faced off this time in the semifinals of the PAISAA tournament hosted on the Quakers home field.

William Penn Charter and Springside Chestnut Hill have already faced twice this year, splitting the series 1-1.

Tuesday evening, the Quakers and Blue Devils put on a thriller of a game, in which the Quakers took the win 13-12 with a game winning goal from senior attack Bea Buckley.

SCH came out of the gates strong taking a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes with goals from junior midfielders Alex Reilly, Sarah Scollin, and Cortney Neverosky. Penn Charter junior attack Grace Walter scored two goals while the Blue Devils scored another, making the score 4-2 Springside with 13 minutes left in the first half.

Reilly and Neverosky went on to score another three more goals combined in the first half. Penn Charter’s Molly Dougherty and Aditi Foster also scored goals of their own to keep the game from getting out of hand at the end of the first half with Springside in the lead 9-7.

During the first half, the Quakers found themselves going down by three goals for most of the half. Senior goalie Kayla Joyce commented on what made the Quakers not give up and fight back to take the lead.

“We know we have each other’s backs no matter what and when I felt down on myself, I just knew my defense had my back regardless and I think that we know from our past losses that if we keep our head high, then we can pull out with the win anytime as long as we keep our heads up,” said Joyce.

In the start of the second half, the Blue Devils expanded their lead to as much as three again, leading the Quakers 11-8 with 15 minutes left in the game. The Quakers began to rally after both teams failed to score for three minutes straight Buckley scored her third goal of the game followed by two more goals for Walter and another goal for Foster, giving the Quakers a 12-11 lead with five minutes remaining in the game.

Blue Devils junior Madison Freeman scored a game tying goal with 4 minutes and 30 seconds left on the clock to make the game 12-12. The Quakers then won the faceoff and held the ball till there were 40 seconds left then Foster drove to the net and passed to Buckley for the game winning goal to put the Quakers up 13-12.

Although the Blue Devils came up short, senior Emma Bradbury reached a huge milestone by recording her 300th career draw control. Bradbury, who will be taking her lacrosse talents to Michigan, also recently scored her 200th career goal in a 14-6 non-conference victory over Haddonfield of South Jersey.
