PHILADELPHIA - Penn Charter baseball has turned heads this postseason. The Quakers made it to the third round of the PAISAA playoffs after having a good regular season, posting a record of 18-9, while also going 5-5 in league play. This was made possible by contributions from multiple players and a strong team dynamic.

They were led by an exceptionally talented group of seniors that racked up multiple All-League selections. Those seniors include Scott Doran, Liam Rowan and Colin Schumm

Rowan is a productive outfielder for the Quakers putting up impressive stats like a .341 batting average and a .918 on-base percentage along with 25 runs batted in.

For third baseman Schumm, he exclaimed how special this year and group of players were to him.

“This was my first year back since I took a year off and the team was so welcoming of me coming back,” said Schumm. “We had a young team this year so when we leave we know the program is filled with great players.”

That year off had no effect on Schumm’s game because he was able to notch four home runs while having a .313 batting average and .986 on-base percentage.

For Doran, he was a strong starting pitcher for the team racking up three wins during the regular season. At the same time, he had an 1.98 earned run average and had 52 K’s throughout 46 innings pitched.

All three seniors can attest to how special their core was this year. This group included some other outstanding players, such as junior pitcher Will Vieira who was named All-League, junior pitcher Christian Clauss and junior Joey DiBenedetto.

“It was a brotherhood. Whenever someone was having an off day one of our teammates was there to pick them up,” said Doran.

“[It was special] How much every player bought into the team perspective of being an underdog,” Rowan added.

All three players had some encouraging words for the Quakers’ young core who will be returning next season.

“You guys have the talent and leadership next year. Make sure to buy in just like this one,” said Rowan.

“Be a leader all the time, even when you don’t feel like it. When one person does everything the right way it starts to become contagious on the team and everyone is fighting for the same thing at the end of the day,” Schumm added.

“Take it all in. Show up to practice ready to get better everyday and lead by example,” said Doran.

Doran has reclassified to the class of 2024 and will be playing for a year at P27 Academy in Lexington, SC. Rowan will be taking his talents to Boston College while Schumm will be playing football at Ithaca College.
