It’s always good to see athletes succeed on and off the field. Aamir Gibson, a Roman Catholic product and First Team All-Catholic, is in that category where he has earned recognition for his football prowess as well as his academic talents.

Gibson, a defensive back for King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, will head into this season as one of the players to watch in the Division III Middle Atlantic Conference. The 5-8, 160-pound junior, will also continue to shine in the classroom.

“My major is nursing,” Gibson said. “It’s not easy, but once you find that balance of getting your studies right and on the field it comes naturally. It’s just motivation to young players out there that you can do both, no matter what your major is. At the end of the day, we’re student athletes.”

Gibson was named to the MAC (Mid-Atlantic Conference) Honor Roll last season. In addition, he was chosen All-MAC honorable mention for his football talents. He had 52 total and 36 solo tackles with 14 pass breakups, two forced fumbles along with one interception.

His contributions helped King’s College post an impressive 8-3 overall and a 7-1 record in the MAC. The Monarchs dropped a 24-13 decision to Ursinus College in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series last season. Gibson feels King’s College has the depth and talent to have another good year.

Gibson believes the MAC is a strong small college conference. He feels you can’t overlook anybody in the league on a weekly basis.

“There’s a lot of great players, coaches and great atmosphere in the MAC,” he said. “Every game we play there’s a lot of competition. I thrive on competition. There’s a lot of great players on that level.”

Gibson knows that hard work will pay off. He plans to keep his sleeves rolled up. Gibson has a good foundation. He has the formula for success that should carry him a long way.
