It didn’t take Russell Minor-Shaw long to display his versatile skills under center for King’s College football team. Minor-Shaw, a former Archbishop Carroll star, has done a terrific job of running the team’s offense as the Monarchs’ quarterback this season.
The 6-4, 230-pound senior, has completed 101-of-150 passes for 1184 yards with 14 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. In addition to his passing skills, Minor-Shaw leads the team in rushing with 123 carries for 419 yards, which includes seven rushing TDs.
“It feels great so far,” Minor-Shaw said. “Everything is going right just from all the hard work I’m putting in. I feel like I’m seeing the field right now and just really understanding the playbook Coach [Skyler] Fultz [King’s College head coach] is always helping me every step of the way. It’s a lot smoother now when I’m on the field.”
Minor-Shaw has not only been reading defenses but showcasing his playmaking talents. He can run and throw the ball down the field.

He’s learned a lot from watching former NFL star quarterback Cam Newton and Baltimore Ravens’ brilliant signal caller Lamar Jackson play the game.
“I just try to be a dual threat quarterback,” he said. “I just try to play like Cam Newton. I always liked Cam Newton when I was growing up. I feel like my game resembles a lot. He’s big. He was great to watch like Cam and Lamar Jackson, I’ve been watching them for a while. I try to take whatever I can from their games and add it to mine.”
Minor-Shaw had a good foundation for playing quarterback at Archbishop Carroll. That’s where he really developed his game before coming to King’s College, a Division III school, located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
“When I first started in the PCL (Philadelphia Catholic League), they had great competition,” Minor-Shaw said. “I started at running back my freshman and sophomore years. Then my junior year, I moved to quarterback. I got better. The PCL made me a lot better just from all the competition.”

The Monarchs are 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
“I think there’s great talent in the MAC this year,” he said. “They’re a lot of pretty good teams in the MAC. I think there’s an elite level of play on every team. You just have to keep competing.”
Russell Minor-Shaw definitely continues to compete at a high level with the Monarchs.
