Lawrence Richardson played some great college football at Morgan State. Richardson, a former Bishop McDevitt High School star in Wyncote, PA also performed very well in the classroom. He completed his playing career at the end of the 2023 season.
Richardson is now preparing for the next phase of life after football. He has been named a recipient of the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Post Graduate Scholarship. Richardson graduated with a degree in biology and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in business administration. He plans to own and operate an orthopedic practice.
“The Morgan State athletic department really helped me,” Richardson said. “I don’t have a football scholarship. My eligibility is gone so to figure out a way to pay for school was in the back of my mind.”
That issue was addressed for him as well as another Morgan State volleyball player Justyus Jackson. The conference post graduate scholarship will give his career a boost.
“Presenting these post graduate scholarships brings me great pleasure as they allow these student athletes the opportunity to set the trajectory towards fulfilling their career aspirations,” said MEAC commissioner Sonja Stills in a statement. “These student-athletes have demonstrated remarkable dedication and resilience standing out as exemplary models of what it means to excel both on and off their respective competition surfaces.

Richardson, a terrific scholastic football player in the Philadelphia Catholic League, had a terrific college football career at Morgan State. He was one of the MEAC’s top linebackers. He received Phil Steele FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) All-MEAC second team honors. Richardson was named to the Bluebloods All-MEAC first team and earned NFF Hampshire Society honors. He had 50 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks last season. Richardson has used football as a tool for success. The scholarship allows him to continue on his path to making a difference off the field.
“Morgan definitely helped me out,” he said. “It was the MEAC scholarship. I was able to get that just to continue my time at Morgan basically for free. It’s definitely a blessing.”
