Freckles and football lit up on Saturday night, once again, as senior linebacker Tyler Matakevich shined during Temple’s game against Cincinnati.

With 20 total tackles, three sacks and two interceptions over a span of only two games, Matakevich has proved the type of football player he is.

After the Owls’ first victory over Penn State, with a score of 27-10, Matakevich made the watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award.

The Chuck Bednarik Award has been issued to a play every year since 1995. Bednarik was a former standout at the University of Pennsylvania and with the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame’s class of ’69 and the NFL Hall of Fame’s Class of ’67.

As a face for Temple’s defense, Matakevich sealed the team’s game against the Cincinnati Bearcats 34-26 with an interception in the end zone, which was his second of the game.

Unstoppable on the field, Matakevich is the third player in Temple Football history to record 100 or more tackles in three straight seasons in 2014. It looks like he could do that again in his final season in cherry and white.
