Despite Their Loss to Archbishop Carroll, These Ragdolls Remained Focused On A Different Challenge

PHILADELPHIA - For the Archbishop Ryan Ragdolls, last night’s game against Archbishop Carroll meant more about playing for a cause; than playing for a win.

Tuesday night was a night the Archbishop Ryan’s Volleyball Team honored one of their classmates. The game was dedicated to childhood cancer, more specifically to junior Nyssa Weber, who was recently diagnosed with lymphoma.

Leading up to the game, the team rallied together and sold T-Shirts adorned with the words “Ryan Volleys For The Cure” and a big yellow ribbon that held the inscription “childhood cancer awareness”.   Money raised from sales of the shirts will go to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

"We choose this charity because we were inspired by our classmate Nyssa Weber who has lymphoma,” said senior Kayla Winter. “We thought that we would expand that idea to children with all types of cancer and all money that we made tonight goes to C.H.O.P. It's a charity that's very important to us."

Even though October is seen as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, organizers of last night’s event wanted to raise awareness about the rise in childhood cancers and more importantly show their love and support for one of their own.

Ryan (5-7) lost in three straight sets to Carroll, but that seemed ok to the Ragdolls because last night they had their eyes on a different type of challenge.

The Ragdolls play Neumann-Goretti on Thursday, Oct. 15th, before finishing their regular season next week.
