Villanova’s two game losing skid is over. After the loss of 2014 Walter Payton award winner and starting quarterback John Robertson, the Wildcats season had taken a turn for the worst. Villanova had lost to Penn for the first time in over a century and followed that up by getting drubbed by William and Mary at home by the score of 38-16.

Villanova embarked on the road to Albany in order to try and get back on track. Albany, a conference rival, was trying to bounce back off a double-digit home loss to Maine.

Villanova set the tone early by receiving the kick and efficiently driving down the field for a touchdown.  Zack Bednarczyk completed a pass to Anthony DeCamillo for 17-yards on a 2nd and 14. Matt Gudzak scampered into the end zone on a 10-yard run to cap off the drive.

Villanova’s defense then went to work. In total they would force five turnovers and shutout the Great Danes.

With Villanova leading 10-0, Albany was threatening deep in Wildcat territory. Villanova’s senior defensive back Cameron McCurry would start in on his career day when he stripped Albany’s Zee Robinson. Villanova’s Eric Drains recovered on the Wildcats own 5-yard line.

Villanova would then stage a heroic goal line stand at the end of the half as Albany was again kept off the board. The Wildcats lead 10-0 going into the break.

The Wildcats defense made sure that the second half was not close. They picked off Albany on 4 of its 6 second half possessions.

Villanova’s offense thrived on the ground as they ran for 269 yards. Freshman quarterback Zach Bednarczyk had his best game since becoming the starter completing all 12 of his passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Villanova (3-3) faces another in conference foe at Towson (3-3) next Saturday, 10/24 at 7:00 P.M.
