In a one-sided affair, it was Archbishop Wood who triumphed in today's quarterfinal at home against St. Hubert's, 2-0.

The pressure was on Hubert's right out of the gate as #21 Sofia Filippo fired in an early goal for Wood in the opening minutes of the game. Wood, energized with the lead, kept their composure through high-energy back-and-forth plays until the halftime whistle blew.

About halfway through the second half, #2 Kylie Menarde added a second goal for Wood.

"I was originally going to try and chip it, but then I saw that they weren't really set so I tried to just put in it,” said Menarde.

And it certainly did go in, as Menarde's goal put the game out of reach for Hubert's. Wood played the ball into the corner for the remainder of the game, letting time 'tick' away until the final blast of the whistle secured Wood's position in the semifinals.

Wood's goalie #1 Paige McQuillen walked away with a clean sheet.

"Coming out I was really nervous, but we all really wanted to win so, we had to play good," said McQuillen.

With a shutout win in a playoff match, it is not far-fetched by any means to say that Archbishop Wood, did, in fact, "play good."

A visibly upset St. Hubert's team left the field, some players in tears.

St. Hubert's #19 Juliana Caranci discussed the loss.

"I mean, it stinks because, like, we have what it takes, it's just, we have nine injured [varsity] players." Hubert's hopes to have a more productive post-season next fall.

Girls’ soccer semifinals continue Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Archbishop Ryan High School.
