Playing on Positive Energy

Bryn Mawr- The loss against Agnes Irwin 6-0 yesterday did not deter the spirit of  the Baldwin girls’ soccer team.  They’ve won the last two away games and have a 8-5-1 overall record and are 2-3-1 in the Inter-Ac League.

According to head varsity soccer coach and assistant athletic director, Adrian Cox, it’s all about creating something more than what you see on the field.

“My main goal this year as the leader of the program is to create a culture of soccer at Baldwin,” said Cox.

“Everything we do as a program is focused on excellence in the classroom, on the field and in the school community.”

This is Cox's first year as head varsity coach. He now has 45 players actively participating in Baldwin's soccer program compared to only 25 last year.

“This team has great leadership from senior co-captains Ellie Greenberg and Hayden Ivey as well as on field leadership from senior goalkeeper Sam O'Keefe,” said Cox.

Cox also sees the future of his team as bright with freshmen and sophomores making immediate impacts on and off the field.

“There is a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm.  The players are eager to learn, improve and compete against the top schools in the Philadelphia area,” said Cox.

Cox stresses that there are no individuals to this team and that building a team takes time and a lot of work year-round.

"Building a team is a process." said Cox. "I am passionate about soccer and I am committed to developing the talent at the school and attracting new student-athletes who value great academics and a positive soccer and social experience."

Baldwin plays Springside Chestnut Hill Academy at home this Saturday, Oct. 24.
