Cardinal O'Hara and Archbishop Wood Earn Spots in PCL Semifinals in Girls Volleyball

WARMINSTER - Archbishop Wood High School hosted back-to-back PCL quarter-final playoff matches tonight, with the first match featuring Cardinal O'Hara vs. Archbishop Prendergast, and the second featuring Archbishop Wood vs. St. Hubert's. On this rainy night in Warminster, PA, Cardinal O'Hara and Archbishop Wood earned their spots in the semi-finals for the PCL playoffs.

O'Hara started off shaky in the first game of their match, falling behind early. It looked as though Prendie was going to snag game one, until O'Hara picked up the lead and ran with it, winning games one and two relatively simply from that point forward. Game three came down to the wire, but O'Hara still managed to grab the "W" and win the game, 25-22.

After the loss, Prendie's #9 Samantha Bohn, who played particularly well, said that going home was sad for her and her team. "We had high expectations, but, you know, it happens," commented Bohn on her way out of the gymnasium.

After the first match was decided, it was the "Archbishop Wood Show" for the rest of the night.

In front of the home fans, the Wood girls put on an extremely impressive display, winning all three of their games in rapid succession. Game two, which began with seven unanswered points for Wood, ended with a whopping score line of 25-5.

Wood's #3 Erin Martin said that the big win came from Wood's phenomenal team-play.

"No matter who went in, we all cheered each other on and worked hard together," said Martin.

Wood's #28 Alysa McDevitt agreed with Martin and said that "Everyone that stepped on the court really put forth the effort... and we got 'em all in."

During the game, congratulations and acknowledgments went to Wood's #13 Kristen Nealon, who picked up her 2,000th assist.  Before the game even started, Nealon was feeling confident.

"In practice, we really worked hard, so we're prepared," said Nealon.

Wood's win puts them into the semi-finals. Their hopes for the playoffs are stated very simply by Wood's #16 Megan Szanajda: "We want to make it all the way."

Also competing in the PCL Semifinals are Lansdale Catholic and Archbishop Carroll.

The semifinals take place this Sunday, November 1st at Neuman College.
