PHILADELPHIA -  In an extremely one-sided game at the Community College of Philadelphia on Friday, Archbishop Wood pummeled Julia R. Masterman to win the AA District 12 Championship, 3 games to 0.

"It's really fun to be a good team with all of your friends," said Wood's #2 Shauna Matthews. Matthews, whose non-stop smile indicated just how much fun she was having, was one of many flawless pieces in the Archbishop Wood winning machine.

Those friends, Matthew's teammates are made-up of 10 seniors, two juniors and one sophomore (Matthews).

According to Archbishop Wood’s head coach Sarah Spadafora, her senior team members are the force which has really solidified their playing power on the court.

"I have 10 seniors that have played on my team on a consistent basis and it's nice to finally see them all come together having fun out there as a team and just enjoying the game and each play on the court," said Spadafora.

Wood's #25 Alyssa Risi, who missed a good amount of games this season due to injury, made an appearance, winning the district with her team. "Everyone worked really hard, everyone really deserves this, and I'm really happy to be a part of this team," said Risi.

The Lady Vikings have not won a PCL Championship since 2010. This District victory is just icing on the cake.

“Around this school all the teams are successful, so it’s nice to be in that atmosphere where they are competitive and that’s kind of the expectation that you play well,” said Spadafora. “I think that it's great for the program, the girls and the school in general.”

Play well indeed; senior captain Megan Cook had 10 kills, 2 blocks 14 digs and 4 aces. Her counterpart, senior captain and 2015 Philadelphia Catholic League MVP Kristen Nealon had 25 assists.

Senior and 2015 1st team all Catholic Maggie Gorman had 10 kills. Senior and 2015 2nd team all Catholic Alysa McDevitt had 7 kills. Rounding out the win was senior captain and 2015 first team all Catholic Ashley McAfee with 25 digs.

Next up for the Lady Vikings- the state playoffs.
