NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA - For both Episcopal Academy and Agnes Irwin, this game was more than just a typical Inter-Ac match-up. This afternoon both teams took the field in full bearing face paint to show their school spirit for EA/AIS Day. For girls, the long standing tradition states that the winner of three out of four games will get presented with "the banner," which Episcopal won last year. Earlier in the day, Episcopal won in tennis 6-0 and Agnes Irwin won in cross-country, so this game meant a lot to both teams.

Being that Episcopal has been an offensive powerhouse and has already clinched the 2015 Inter-Ac title, Agnes Irwin knew this game was not going to be easy.

With three minutes left in the first half, Owls co-captain Kristin Burnetta, scored the first goal of the afternoon putting her team up 1-0.  One minute later, Burnetta's co-captain offensive counterpart Emily Fryer enhanced the lead for Agnes Irwin making the score 2-0.

Going into the half, the Owls looked strong on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball leaving Episcopal scoreless.

As one would expect, Episcopal came out after halftime attacking at the net, missing some opportune corner-kick shots. With a little over 20 minutes left in the game, Molly O'Brian shot one in the back of the net to put Episcopal on the board, 2-1.

Despite the effort from Episcopal, Agnes Irwin held on to their lead winning the game 2-1, propelling the Owls one step closer to being awarded the EA/AIS day banner.

Agnes Irwin's head coach, Nick Spillane stressed the importance of this win for his team.

"It's a big deal for both schools and this rivalry has grown immensely," said Spillane. "We took a few chances today and got balls in behind them. We have lost some tough games this year and I feel we underperformed. But this win was huge, we have a great senior class and, going into the tournament next week, I'm hoping to send them off as state champions."
