ROSEMONT, Pa. – Agnes Irwin's Varsity athletes fought to a draw Friday during the 11th annual AIS/EA Day, with victories in soccer and cross country earning them the right to share the banner with Episcopal Academy for this school year.

AIS/EA Day represents a traditional, collegial rivalry between the two schools’ athletics programs, as well as a platform for showcasing girls’ fall sports in the Inter-Ac League. The schools compete in four of six fall sports: field hockey, tennis, soccer and cross country. The AIS/EA games occur the day before the boys’ teams from Episcopal and The Haverford School compete.

The AIS soccer and cross country teams won gritty competitions, while the tennis and field hockey match-ups went to EA. With each school winning two of the four sports competitions that comprise AIS/EA Day, Agnes Irwin will keep the banner for half of the school year and Episcopal win keep the banner for the other half.

"We're tremendously proud of our athletes and the heart they put into this annual rivalry. Our girls showed no fear and proved that they are talented and dedicated competitors," said Athletic Director Sheila Pauley, referencing the AIS slogan for this year' AIS/EA Day T-shirt.

Seniors Emily Fryer and Kristin Burnetta scored the game’s two goals for Agnes Irwin, and the team took the contest 2-1. The soccer team held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half, and dug in to hold off an EA surge during the second half. Molly O'Brian scored the lone goal for Episcopal. The Owls' defeat of Episcopal's soccer squad was significant, as EA won the Inter-Ac League championship in girls' soccer earlier this fall.

Likewise, AIS Varsity cross country took the second, third and fifth best times to build a team score that EA could not overcome, despite having the fastest runner. The score was 34-25 in Agnes Irwin’s favor. AIS senior Jessica Crowley clocked the second-fastest time on the cross country course, followed by freshmen Sanaiya Watts (3rd) and Maddie Aguirre (5th), seniors Laura Cutler (7th) and Teagan Aguirre (8th), and junior Daniela Wright (9th).

Episcopal dominated in field hockey, scoring four goals leading into halftime. The Churchwomen ended up winning the game 7-2. Scoring for EA, were Corrine Zanolli with three goals, Margaux Paolino with two goals and Lexie Fischer with two goals.
