PHILADELPHIA-  Archbishop Wood's football team defeated Archbishop Carroll in the AAA Semifinals at William Tennent High School, winning the game Saturday night, 49-6.

The Vikings, as expected, trampled the Patriots to the point where there might as well not have even been a second half, as the score was 42-0 at halftime.

Number 7 Shawn Thompson and two-way player #14 Raheem Blackshear were unstoppable in the first half. Blackshear intercepted a pass coupled with two touchdowns, one of them for 42 yards, and Thompson scored two touchdowns as well, including one for 55 yards.  Number 11 James Gillespie also caught a 32 yard first half touchdown pass, which really put the game out of reach for Carroll.

Wood's starting QB #13 Anthony Russo was on fire, commanding the field as usual, even recording a touchdown himself. Russo set the stage for backup QB #3 Kody Cracknell who took over in the second half.

Wood's defense was rock solid as well, especially when #1 Adrian Lambert blocked the PAT, after Carroll's Christian Smith scored a touchdown putting up their only points.

In the second half; another Wood touchdown for good measure sealed the game, 49-6.

"It's usually really rowdy [in the stands], but tonight it wasn't because it was so cold," remarked Wood's' fans Lindsay Clarke and Mary Czerwonka, who braved the cold to support their team. They plan on attending the state championship game.

The Vikings have won the AAA PCL Title for the past seven years. They play this Friday against Archbishop Ryan. Ryan defeated Bonner-Prendie in a close knit 7-6 win for their chance at the coveted title.
