NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA, PA - Last Saturday at Northeast High School, Imhotep Charter won against previously undefeated Archbishop Wood, ending the Vikings season.

Vikings junior wide receiver, Mark Webb, caught the first touchdown pass of the evening to make the score 7-0. Deep into the second quarter, Imhotep's wide receiver, Aamir Brown, caught a touchdown pass of his own. After a successful two-point conversion, Imhotep led Wood 8-7 at halftime.

About halfway through the third quarter, running back Shawn Thompson handed Wood the lead again. After kicker Dan Zanine grabbed his second extra point of the game, the Vikings were up by six with a score of 14-8.

A few plays later, Woods defensive back Dan Freeman intercepted a pass. Another touchdown would have been great for the Vikings, but instead, the game started to tip toward Imhotep's direction.

Imhotep's cornerback Mike Crawford made a gorgeous defensive play, stripping the ball off of a Wood attacker, recovering the fumble, and running in a touchdown, tying the game at 14 a piece after a missed two-point conversion attempt. Two minutes into the fourth quarter, running back Mike Waters put Imhotep up by another 6-points (after another missed two-point conversion). It was anyone's game as Wood raced up the field. However, with about 6 minutes left on the clock, Vikings quarterback Anthony Russo threw a fatal interception that was also caught by Waters.

At that point in the stands, Wood fans could foresee how the game would end. Time ran out, the home faithful finished their hot chocolates, and walked out as the visitors celebrated their win over the 2011, 2012, and 2014 state champions.

Imhotep advances to face Academy Park tomorrow night.
