ROSEMONT, PA - The Germantown Academy [GA] girls’ basketball team swept Agnes Irwin 57-24 on Tuesday night. Senior captain Erin Lindahl led GA with 12 points, seven of them being free throws in the second half of the game. Sophomore Cat Polisano contributed 10 points, to GA’s victory with two big three-pointers in the first quarter.

GA showed their strength on defense, holding Agnes Irwin to only eight points before halftime, while also scoring 27 points on offense.

“I think we have a good inside-out game, where our guards can hit from outside, they can push the ball up the court in transition but our post players do a great job scoring inside and rebounding for us. Our captains, Erin [Lindahl] and Kendall [Grasela], are like our floor generals out there and Lauren Oeth is our other captain,” said GA head coach Sherri Retif.

Agnes Irwin’s Alex Blomstrom dropped eight points for the Owls and Lindsay Lane and Gianna Napoleon each gave five.

A tough game for Agnes Irwin gave GA captains and seniors Oeth and Lindahl the chance to really showcase their skills.

“We have great senior leadership but they also pride themselves on defense and that’s been our go-to for every game,” Retif said. “Their energy is really high, they’re intensity is really high and they have great chemistry with each other on the court. I love these kids because they work so hard on the court and they’re all great friends off the court.”

Agnes Irwin’s Paige Brala, Caroline Coyne and Katie Anderson each dropped two points to help the Owls. GA freshman Rachel Balzer added nine points for the Patriots, which tied a season-high, all of which were three pointers in the second half of the game. Sophomore Alexa Naessens and juniors Abby Starzecky and Lilly Bolen each contributed four points for the Patriots. Grasela dropped three and senior Maeve Connor and junior Jess Sheridan each lent two points in the fourth quarter.

Germantown Academy (11-2) will continue Inter-Ac play this Friday at 4PM away at Springside Chestnut Hill. Agnes Irwin (5-8) will also continue league play against Baldwin this Friday at 4PM at home. As for Germantown Academy and Agnes Irwin,  the girls will meet again on January 29 at 4PM at Irwin’s home court.
