Quade Green scored his 1,000th career point in Neumann-Goretti’s win over St. Joe's Prep.

EAST PASSYUNK CROSSING – When Quade Green made a three pointer with 2:15 left in the second quarter Wednesday night against Saint Joseph’s Prep, the crowd cheered louder than it would for a normal three pointer. The jump shot from the top of the key counted for the junior guard’s 1,000th career point. When the ball went through the net, it was only fitting that his grandmother, the first basketball player in the family, ran onto the court with a sign commemorating the occasion.

After the game, Green’s head coach Carl Arrigale jokingly said “your grandmother cost me a timeout.”

“I didn’t even know it was my one-thousandth point until today…I wasn’t even thinking about it.” Green said. “I wasn’t even worrying about it. I was just hitting all my open shots and next thing you know I got my thousandth point.”

The 6’0” 160-pound guard with offers from Villanova, Syracuse University, Michigan State, University of Maryland, among others added to his resume, scored 27 points in Neumann-Goretti’s 67-53 win.

With a 8-7 lead after the first quarter, the Saints pulled away, outscoring the Hawks 23-8 in the second quarter.

“In the second quarter we played more like ourselves,” Arrigale said. “That was about the only quarter we played well tonight. That’s our game is to get defensive stops, get out in transition, share the ball. Quade really got rolling and made some big shots for us that helped get our separation.”

A three pointer by Kyle Thompson with seven seconds left in the third quarter cut the deficit to seven. The Hawks (12-6, 6-3) got as close as six points when Darius Kinnel made a basket with 5:30 left in the fourth quarter, but got into foul trouble. The Saints took advantage of the double bonus situation and put the game away at the free throw line. Thompson scored a team high 20 points in the loss.

Neumann-Goretti (16-2, 9-0) hopes to keep its undefeated record when it faces West Catholic Friday.
