La Salle Triumphs Over St. Joe's Prep in Heated Rivalry Game

WYNDMOOR, PA- On the final day of the PCL regular season, La Salle squared off against rivals Saint Joe’s Prep with both playoff spots and bragging rights on the line. In addition to the game being a rivalry match, it was also Senior Day for the Explorers meaning there would no lack of excitement and passion from the La Salle student section.

From then on, it became apparent La Salle was going to win the game. The Hawks were only able to score two points in the fourth quarter compared to La Salle’s thirteen. The game finished 55-36. The Prep's Pete Gayhardt led his team with 13 points while La Salle’s McTamney and Shane Stark finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds and 12 points and 3 rebounds respectively.

 

La Salle started the game off with an 11-0 run halfway through the first quarter. The Hawks then bounced back with a run of their own to finish up the first quarter 13-11 with La Salle still in the lead.  After some more back and forth play in the second quarter, the first half came to a close with La Salle still edging out St. Joe’s 29-21. La Salle’s 1st team All Catholic key player Ryan McTamney finished the first half with 10 points.

The third quarter is when the game really heated up. The Hawks cut down La Salle’s lead to one point with four minutes remaining in the quarter. However, the Explorers were able to quickly regain their sizeable lead and finish the quarter up 42-34.

Most importantly, La Salle’s victory clinched them the 4th seed in the PCL Playoffs. The Explorers will face Archbishop Ryan on Friday, February 12th in the PCL quarterfinals in the hope of advancing to the semifinals at the Palestra and earning a berth in the PIAA AAAA State Basketball Tournament.
