VILLANOVA FALLS to XAVIER

Seventh time seems to be the charm for the Musketeers who finally took down Villanova after seven other tries and avenging their 29-point loss earlier in the season. Xavier upended Villanova 90-83, snapping the Wildcats seven-game win streak.

Josh Hart had a rough game being in foul trouble for most of the contest and only managed 13 points on 4 of 13 shooting from the field. Villanova only shot 44% as a team and made it to the free throw line a total of 13 times as opposed to Xavier’s 33 trips to the charity strike.

The Musketeers kept the pressure on the Wildcats the whole game which help Edmond Summer score 19 points with 11 of those points coming from the foul line. Kris Jenkins continues to improve each game for Nova as he had another big performance with 22 points, but had little help from his teammates.

Villanova still leads the Big East by one and half games and they will look to get back on track after this setback.

TEMPLE'S QUENTON DECOSEY COMES THRU WITH GAME WINNING BASKET AGAINST UCF

Tied at 61 with under 30 seconds to go, Temple put the ball in the hands of their leading scorer Quenton DeCosey and he delivered with the game-winning jumper with 3 seconds left in the game. This is a game Temple could not lose and DeCosey made sure of that giving them a 63-61 victory.

Obi Enechionyia continues to play well and he once again led the Owls in scoring with 18 points and also had 8 rebounds in the contest. The struggles of Quenton DeCosey continued as he was only 6-18 from the floor, but did score 16 points including the game-winning basket as mentioned before.

University of Central Florida dominated Temple in the paint and that was in large part to the knights 7'6 center Tacko Fall, who proved be a nuisance inside all game long. Fall had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, also blocking five shots.

Temple stayed out of the paint most of the game to avoid embarrassment and they looked to the three-ball where Devin Coleman had a huge impact contributing 12 points off the bench all on three's. Daniel Dingle had a quiet game stringing together only eight total points with five of them coming off free throws.

The Owls forced UCF into many bad decisions, who turned the ball over 12 times leading to 13 easy points for Temple. Josh Brown and Jaylen Bond only combined for nine points, but Brown did dish out nine assists and came fairly close to a double-double, just an assist and two rebounds shy.

Temple made this game way closer than it needed to be and it almost cost them dearly with so little margin for error in the position they are currently in right now. The Owls continue to sit atop of the conference standings by a slim lead and they need to win out to keep their hopes of a trip to the NCAA Tournament alive.

Temple will be back home on Thursday for a 7 PM rematch against Memphis who beat the Owls earlier in the year by 2 points in the final seconds.

ST. JOE'S UNIVERSITY TAKES CARE OF BUSINESS AGAINST UMASS

This game was close heading into the second half, but Saint Joe’s knew what they had to do to pull away from a lowly UMass. The Hawks turned to the three-ball shooting 10 of 22(45%) for the game and simply overwhelming the Minutemen as Saint Joe’s easily won 74-57.

UMass could match Saint Joe’s three-pointing and that ended up being one of their biggest pitfalls in the game. They only managed to make two 3’s on 22 attempts and it wasn’t even close to cutting it.

Isaiah Miles led the way for the Hawks with 20 points and 9 rebounds, just missing a double-double and he shot well from beyond the arc. DeAndre Bembry almost had a double-double as well with 18 points and 9 rebounds.

The consistent play of Miles and Bembry will be huge going forward if they want to make it far in the NCAA Tournament, but first they have to get it done in the Atlantic-10 Tournament.

Saint Joe’s is in the home stretch of the regular season with only two games left and winning would do wonders for the Hawks as they could clinch the number one seed in the Atlantic-10 Tournament.

LA SALLE GETS BACK ON TRACK AGAINST GEORGE MASON

Jordan Price pretty much carried La Salle on his back in this one with a 24-point performance. This game was sloppy on both sides but La Salle managed to pull it out with a  76-68 victory.

The Explorers only managed to shoot 39% as a team. The Patriots dominated La Salle on the boards by a margin 10 with 15 of their 48 rebounds coming on the offensive glass.

Amar Stukes and Cleon Roberts combined for 27 points, but aside from them it was the Jordan Price show.

Only two more games until La Salle’s season comes to an end and they will be able to move on and start anew next year.

COLUMBIA TROUNCES UPENN ON SENIOR DAY

It’s easy to win a game when your team shoots almost 65% from the floor and that’s exactly what Columbia did, cruising to a 93-65 victory. Penn seniors had to endure that in their last ever home game, but there’s not much you can when a team is unconscious shooting like that.

Darien Nelson-Henry continued his fine senior campaign with an 18-point and 7-rebound performance to close out his last game at the Palestra. Freshman Jackson Donahue contributed 16 points to the cause and junior Matt Howard added 14 points and 7 rebounds.

Penn has three games left to go in the season.

DREXEL'S TWO GAME WIN STREAK COMES TO AN END

Drexel had a chance to win this game at the buzzer, but Tony Allen’s three-point try did not make it as the Dragons fell 61-59 at the hands of Northeastern. Drexel had the lead for most of the game, but allowed Northeastern to hang around and the Huskies made the Dragons pay.

Tony Allen had a monster game for Drexel with 27 points. Allen  was responsible for five of Drexel’s nine made three-pointers. Kazembe Abif and Rashann London contributed 10 points each.

Drexel only made it to the free throw line a total of four times as opposed to Northeastern’s 15 trips to the free throw line.

Drexel has one more game as they take on Elon this Friday to close out the season.
