RADNOR, PA- Archbishop Carroll fell to Archbishop Wood by a score of 7-2 during a home game Wednesday afternoon.

The Vikings were lifted by a stellar pitching performance from junior Sean Hughes. Hughes recorded six strikeouts in six plus innings of work.

Hughes took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning, which was broken up by a single into left-field by junior outfielder Nick Argentieri.

The Vikings bats were alive early in the game, scoring six of their seven runs in the second inning.

Reigning Catholic League MVP Joey Lancellotti led the offensive charge for Wood with a grand-slam in the second inning off of Carroll pitcher Chris Altopedi.

Lancellotti finished the day 2-4 at the plate with 4 RBI’s. Sophomore Mike Ferrara also took Altopedi over the fence in the second inning.

After suffering the team's first league loss of the season, senior captain Nick Zambella had this to say about how the Patriots need to bounce back.

“We just need to get back out to practice and continue to work. We’re a young team with a new coach, and everything is still falling into place."

I have amazing confidence in this team, we have a great group of guys and a great coaching staff. We’ll be okay,” said Zambella.

Zambella, who is currently leading the Catholic League in home runs with three already in this young season had an uncharacteristically quiet day at the plate going 0-3 at the plate.

Fellow captain Nick Argentieri provided the offense for the Patriots, going 2-4 and recording the only 2 RBI’s on the day for Carroll.

Next league play for both teams is on Monday, April 11th when Carroll takes on La Salle on the road.

Archbishop Wood remains at home against Archbishop Ryan.
