NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA - Behind consistent offense and an ability to thwart off pesky comebacks, Agnes Irwin Academy edged Episcopal Academy, 7-6, in an Inter-Academic contest April 6 at Episcopal.
Freshman pitcher Paige DiLullo notched the victory, but it was the hitting of Michaela Maciolek that made most of the difference. The junior went 3 for 4, with a single, triple, and a home run, and she knocked in three runs.
Trailing 1-0, Agnes Irwin scored four runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead, but the Churchmen rebounded by scoring a run in the third and two more in the fourth. Single runs in the fifth and sixth again gave Agnes Irwin a two-run lead, but the never-say-die Churchmen responded with two runs in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6 before Agnes Irwin tallied a run in the seventh for the victory.
