PHILADELPHIA, PA-  Archbishop Ryan and Roman Catholic faced off at the Kroc Center for a classic PCL grudge match.

Roman Catholic was looking for their first conference win this past Friday, but came up short against the Raiders.

The Cahillites came out aggressive scoring a goal within the first minute of the game and controlled the tempo early on.

They patiently set up their offense but were unable to convert a couple shots around the net that would have helped them down the stretch.  Unfortunately, this early goal was the only one they would see the entire first quarter.

Ryan fans could be heard yelling: “You guys got to wake up and turn up the intensity,” and that is exactly what the Raiders did.

Ryan knotted the game up at 1-1 with under five minutes remaining in the first quarter, and that was just the start to a scoring barrage.

The Raiders tacked on four more goals before the horn sounded, leading Roman by a score of 5-1 at the end of the first quarter.

The Cahillites, (0-7), started the second quarter in a similar fashion scoring early on and cutting the deficit to just three goals.

Ryan, (2-4), however had a quicker answer than they had in the first quarter, scoring back to back goals with under eight minutes reaming in the second, extending the lead to five goals.

Both teams traded goals for the remaining eight minutes, and at the end of the second quarter the Raiders led the Cahillites 9-4.

Ryan held onto their lead in the second half and continued to execute on both ends of the field. Their offensive sets seemed to click every time.

Roman depended on isolation plays for the majority of their goals.

Winning some key face-offs and having great defense around the crease is what gave the Raiders their advantages. By the end of the third quarter, Ryan was up 13-8.

The Raiders’ three attackmen controlled the pace of their offense throughout the final quarter.

Archbishop Ryan defeated Roman Catholic by a score of 15-11.

The Raiders will hit the road for more league action when they face Archbishop Carroll April 15th.

Roman will look to grab their next PCL win against Cardinal O’Hara this Wednesday at O’Hara.
