Bryn Mawr, PA- Despite a big day at the dish from junior Angela Smith who finished 2-3, the Baldwin Bears lost 9-2 to William Penn Charter on Friday.

This was Baldwin’s second Inter-Ac league game of the season winning against Germantown Academy 19-7 on April 8th.

Smith had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. She doubled in the fourth and sixth innings.

However, the Quakers did not relinquish the lead after scoring six runs in the third inning when they scored on a two-run double by Grace Stansfield, an error, and a sacrifice fly by Zoe Neele.

A two-run sixth inning helped bring the Bears within seven.

An RBI double by sophomore Sam Martin and an RBI double by ace pitcher Sam O'Keefe set off Baldwin’s rally.

But, PC pitcher Faith Fenton got senior Noelle Zimmerman to ground out to end the inning.

Fenton secured the win for the Quakers allowing two runs over seven innings. She struck out two, walked none and surrendered six hits.

O'Keefe allowed nine runs, two earned in seven innings. She walked four and struck out three.

Despite this loss for the Bears, head coach David Pulli said don’t count them out just yet.

“The way we came out and played today shows that we can compete with just about anybody in this league.”

With 20 games to play in the season, these Bears are just warming up.

“We have a group of solid girls really smart girls who are learning the game,” said Pulli.

“So for us to get out there and play some more games is going to really give us that experience we need that softball IQ that awareness we need to develop.”

The Bears continue with league action away this Tuesday against Agnes Irwin.
