PHILADELPHIA- Last week, John W. Hallahan High School lacrosse played a hard fought non-league match against Collegium Charter School.

Despite the 13-11 loss, the team had plenty to celebrate, as number 7 senior attacker Alynn Phelan celebrated her 200th career goal.

Phelan, who was named 1st Team All Catholic in Lacrosse, netted 8 goals in the contest.

An offensive and defensive machine, Phelan showed no sense of slowing down and maintained a constant force on the field.

"I think she's one of the best players in the Catholic League," said Hallahan head coach Shawn Murphy.

"I'm not truly a lacrosse coach, I did this mostly because of Alynn. I researched a lot just to help her out. She is a remarkable kid, I'm her assistant coach in soccer and we've had her for four years, I got to know her. She's a remarkable player,” said Murphy.

“Most of the girls who come out for our team are playing for the first time when they come to Hallahan. Alynn played before she arrived at Hallahan and excelled as soon as she hit the high school level,” said Hallahan athletic director Michael Gallagher.

Phelan has been awarded Hallahan’s Athlete of the Year Award in both her junior and senior year, an award she shares with fellow classmate and Clarion University commit (soccer), Bridget Stermel.

During her high school career, Phelan was a three-sport athlete gracing the soccer and lacrosse fields as well as pivoting the hardwood for her basketball team.

“She is a fun athlete to watch because she leaves everything on the field. She has a tremendous motor,” said Gallagher.

Just four year’s old, Hallahan’s lacrosse program shows great promise.

And thanks to Phelan’s dedication, skill and example her team will continue to grow long after her graduation.

“She has gone from being a great player to being a great teacher and ambassador for the sport. I have already spoken to her about getting into coaching once she finishes college,” said Gallagher.

Phelan who will be attending Penn State, Altoona in the fall, was presented with the match ball after the game to commemorate her outstanding season.
