BIRDSBORO, PA- For the Wilson Bulldogs of West Lawn, their record-setting 25 win season came to an end yesterday in the PIAA Quarterfinal match-up between La Salle College High School at Daniel Boone.
The District 3 Champs were no match against the Explorers (21-3) who scored the first three goals right from the gate and never looked back securing the 14-5 victory.
The Philadelphia Catholic League Champions and District 12 title holders were in it to win in. Their offense has been the dominating force this entire season and this game was a perfect illustration of how well the Explorers constantly keep the ball moving seizing every opportunity to score.
La Salle’s Brett Baskin led the scoring blitz with four goals and two assists.
This junior attacker is no stranger when it comes to feeling the pressure and securing a win. Baskin scored the winning overtime goal (8-7) against Bishop Shanahan in Wednesdays first PIAA round jetting them to this quarterfinal game.
La Salle’s sophomore Matt Clibanoff scored three goals within the first two minutes of the game and had two assists on the day.
Seniors, Cody Mazurek and Kohler Setley netted two each. Senior Colin Cahill scored a goal with one assist. Junior Chris Hladczuk also found the back of the net along with an assist and sophomore Brendan Meagher’s goal rounded out the win.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs (25-1) had a tremendous season with several firsts including a first District 3 title for a BCIAA lacrosse team and their fifth consecutive league championship. The team will have the strength of its veteran players come next year hoping to continue their league reign.
The four-time state title holder Explorers will face District 3 runner-up Manheim Township (23-3) this Tuesday in the PIAA semifinals at Exeter.
