WARMINSTER, PA – Thursday, September 1st marked the first afternoon of Girls' Tennis in the Philadelphia Catholic League season.

Archbishop Wood started on a positive note, winning all of the five matches of the afternoon (three singles and two doubles) against Little Flower. The Sentinels put up a valiant effort in all matches, but couldn't best the Wood veterans.

SINGLES:

Wood's Jessica Firriolo, Kylie Corless, and Natalie Bowers all won their matches in straight sets.

Firriolo: W 6-1, W 6-4

Corless: W 6-1, W 6-1

Bowers: W 6-2, W 6-1

DOUBLES:

The Wood pairs of {Macy Jo Gillen & Ally Wolk} and {Marlena Panzica & Jacquelyn Sherman} were also flying high, and, like the singles, didn't surrender a single set.

Bob Salembier, a.k.a. "Coach Bob" to the Wood family, couldn't be happier as he sat and watched his team win set after set.

"A lot of the girls are doing what we've been practicing," said Salembier. "[They're] being patient, keeping the ball in play, and playing high-percentage shots, so I'm really happy."

Considering the success he's having with his current team, it's no surprise that he's already devoting attention to Wood's fresh talent.

"We have a lot of new girls too, and they're learning the game, but they're not too far off from playing in matches," said Salembier.
