WYNCOTE, PA – The Lansdale Catholic Crusaders girls’ soccer team scored their way to victory against the Bishop-McDevitt Lancers on Monday afternoon.

Captain Lena Staropoli hit the top of the opposite goal post with a huge kick and the ball spiraled into the back of the net to ensure the Crusaders third straight victory with a 7-0 win at Thomas Williams Park.

Defender Colleen Viereck had two assists to striker Kate Henesey to boost the Crusaders. The Crusaders are now 3-1 and 2-0 in the Philadelphia Catholic league.

There was no hesitation from Lansdale Catholic as they took over in the opening half with a corner shot from Staropoli that bounced back to Erin O’Sullivan who lobbed a goal into the net for the 1-0 lead.

Shortly after, LC’s midfielder Erin Toburen put another ball in the net for a 2-0 advantage over the Lancers.

Staropoli’s free-kick strike followed by midfielder and forward Taylor Connolly’s lob over the goalkeeper’s head put the Crusaders at a 4-0 lead, giving them just the right amount of confidence.

Toburen wasn’t done yet as she added her second goal to put the score at 5-0 after the ball was taken away from Henesey in the box. Toburen was able to recover the ball and kick a low shot past Bishop-McDevitt’s goalie, Morgan Bender.

Henesey placed the final two goals in the net for the Crusaders. Her unique footwork gave her the opportunity to dribble the ball in close and shoot it past  Bender.

Lansdale Catholic’s next league game is at Neumann-Goretti tomorrow, September 15th at 3:45.

The Lancers will also host Archbishop Ryan tomorrow afternoon.
