SPRINGFIELD, PA- Beating a rival, being undefeated, and winning two consecutive Catholic League games are just some of the reasons why the Cardinal O’Hara High School crowd cheered as players stormed off the field.

O’Hara defeated Monsignor Bonner-Prendergast 28-0 in shutout fashion on Friday night with their senior quarterback, Tommy O’Hara leading the way.

It’s O’Hara’s first time beating the Friars since the 2013 season. The Lions are now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Catholic League.

“It feels great,” O’Hara said. “The last time we beat Bonner I think was my freshman year.”

O’Hara’s offense got rolling early on their first drive, which lasted 10 plays and just under five minutes.

O’Hara punched in one of his two rushing touchdowns with 2:36 remaining in the first quarter to put the Lions up 7-0.

Junior wide receiver, Justin Santilla, connected with O’Hara five times throughout the night for 117-yards and two touchdowns.

Santilla hauled in a 46-yard touchdown pass lofted by O’Hara late in the third quarter to put the Lions up 28-0.

Through the air, O’Hara was 9/10, threw for 132-yards, one interception and two touchdowns.

“He’s a great player,” O’Hara said. “It just comes natural to him. Once you get the ball into his hands, it’s easy for him to make something happen.”

Bonner drove the ball deep into O’Hara’s zone on their first possession until senior quarterback Evan Raiburn failed to convert on fourth down, which forced the Friars to turn the ball over on downs.

The Lions would score on back-to-back drives to make it 14-0 with 6:29 remaining in the second quarter.

With just over a minute remaining in the first half, O’Hara regained possession on Bonner’s 41-yard line after an interception by junior linebacker Cameron Blair.

Four plays later O’Hara linked up with Santilla on a slant route to make it 21-0 Lions heading into halftime.

The Friars tried to make plays happen through the air but they didn’t have any luck against a hungry Lions' defense.

On top of Blair’s interception, junior defensive back Jamir Redd picked off Raiburn late in the third quarter.

Raiburn went 8/21, for 61-yards and two interceptions.

O’Hara held the Friars to 185-yards of total offense on the night.

O'Hara head coach B.J. Hogan said his players were locking down on their assignments all night.

“They’re buying into the system defensively and it’s the little things where they trust each other, and that’s all the difference,” Hogan said. “… It’s starting to snowball a little bit.”

The Lions are on the bye next week and won’t play again until Oct. 7 against Lansdale Catholic.

Hogan said his team will get to rest up but he wishes they could carry this momentum into next week.

“The part I don’t like now we’re on an open week,” Hogan said. “Now we got this momentum and they’re going to have to stop a little bit so it will be good for our kids to get healed up and we’ll get after Lansdale Catholic.”
