PHILADELPHIA – The Penn Charter Quakers varsity girls’ soccer hosted the Baldwin School at Somers Field this Tuesday with hopes of adding a loss to Baldwin’s historic start to their season.

So far, Baldwin has secured notable wins over Shipley, Lawrenceville, Westtown, as well as a victory over Agnes Irwin. Unlike Penn Charter who has an even mix of all grade levels, Baldwin’s squad consists dominantly of sophomores.

The game kicked off and was mostly spent in Penn Charter’s offensive third. Baldwin’s sophomore goaltender, Simi Bleznak, and junior defender Carly McIntosh put up a spectacular performance in the back to keep the game scoreless.

As the first half began to wind down, Kaitlynn Haughey was able to poke a loose ball into the net to put Penn Charter up 1-0 by the end of the half.

The second half started and the Quakers picked up where they left off. Baldwin’s defense kept the game tight, but with 11 minutes left in the second half, Giovanna DeMarco’s shot found its way into the lower left hand corner of the goal which secured Penn Charter with the 2-0 win.

Both teams have performed tremendously well throughout the 2016 season. Baldwin opened up their season 9-0 (11-0 including preseason scrimmages) before losing 2-0 to Episcopal Academy. They now hold an impressive 11-2 record as they begin the second month of their season. At the other end, Penn Charter also holds a winning record of 8-2.

Next up, Baldwin will face Germantown Academy on Thursday, October 6 and Penn Charter will travel to the Academy of Notre Dame on Friday, October 7.
