NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA- The matchup between Episcopal Academy and Springside Chestnut Hill can be summed up by one EA spectator’s outburst, “We dominate, we can’t score!”

Friday’s game ended with EA defeating SCH 2-0 on their home field, but the win did not come easy.

Episcopal displayed great ball movement and a constant connection among the players throughout the game, but the team was having a hard time finishing. By the end, EA had missed one penalty kick, hit the post twice, and shot four free kicks going nowhere.

“We played well enough today to win. I don’t think that was our best game. Our kids were out of school today, so they were out of their routine. We had lots of chances,” EA’s head coach David Knox said.

The start of the game looked promising for EA with an early goal crossed by senior midfielder Quinn Dudek that hit off one of the Blue Devils to put Episcopal on the board.

Both Knox and SCH’s head coach Brian Zalasky were very vocal throughout the game. This is Zalasky’s first year coaching the boy’s varsity soccer team and it was clear he was not afraid to use his voice.

Twenty-one minutes into the second half, Zalasky received a green card as a warning for his sideline behavior.

“He [The ref] doesn’t like to take a lot of junk from players or coaches, so yeah it was probably called for…[I] shouldn’t be talking to the refs so it is what it is,” said Zalasky.

It’s SCH’s sophomore goalie Owen Elliot’s first year on the varsity squad. Both Elliot and his defenders were able to hold off Episcopal by driving hard to the ball and clearing it from their goal.

EA’s second and final goal with four minutes left to play was huge for the team. With an assist from senior midfielder Ramon Gallegos, senior forward Brandon Sheppard clinched the victory.

Also contributing was Episcopal’s senior goalkeeper Matt Freese with a great end of game save maintaining EA’s shutout.
