The Cahillites Take A Step Back

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA – Last week, the Cahillites pulled off a confidence boosting win against Archbishop Carroll and were looking to continue their winning ways against undefeated St. Joseph’s Prep. Roman knew this game would be a fight – and they were ready for it.

On the opening kickoff, Roman surprised the Prep with an onside kick. The Cahillites recovered and got to start the game on their own 25-yard line. On their first possession, the Cahillites were unable to score a touchdown and settled for a 17-yard field goal to put them up 3-0, in what would be Roman’s only lead of the game.

On the Prep’s first possession, the Hawks drove down the field and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback, Marquez McCray. Next, the Prep completed a 2-point conversion to make the score 8-3 with 5:47 left in the first quarter. With under a minute left in the second quarter, McCray threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Greene to send the Hawks into the half leading 15-3 over the Cahillites.

About seven minutes into the third quarter, McCray hit Greene again with 27-yard touchdown pass to increase the Hawks lead to 22-3 with 4:57 remaining in the third quarter. With under a minute left in the fourth quarter, Roman scored off an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Haynes. However, it was a little too late for the Cahillites to try to make a comeback. The game ended in the Hawks favor with a final score of 22-10.

After the game, Prep senior running-back D’Andre Swift stated that he was satisfied with his team’s win, but not their style of play.

“We didn’t play good, but we got the win,” said the Georgia commit.

In contrast, Roman senior captain Dahmeer Duvernay was satisfied in the way his teammates battled on the field.

“It was a hard-fought game, playing against a great football team and facing adversity,” said Duvernay. “But we’ll see them again.”

Looking ahead, the Prep will host Father Judge at Widener University this Friday at 7:30PM. The Cahillites look to bounce back from this tough loss next Saturday as they travel on the road to face La Salle at Plymouth Whitemarsh.
