TEAM UPDATE – The Archbishop Ryan Football team has a well-earned break this weekend. The Raiders are currently 4-3 coming off of a fresh win against Archbishop Carroll last Saturday 26-7.  Ryan’s starting quarterback, senior Matt Romano, is currently out with a MCL tear but hopes to be back in time for playoffs.

Due to the absence of Romano, juniors Chris Reed and Cameron Gontek have had to step it up to fill their quarterback’s shoes.

“It feels good to start and to play. Hopefully we will make the playoffs this year. I've been working really hard, understanding more of the offense and watching more film,” Reed said on how he's preparing for this new leadership role.

Senior co-captain and leader on the offensive line, Brendan Ruskowski, explains how he’s been protecting his quarterback.

“I would say you prepare the same but you know you have to pick it up and help him out and look out for him,” said Ruskowski. “It was a great feeling coming off of a win after a couple tough losses. We're getting better each week. Our goal is ahead of us.”

Members of the football team happily pose for a quick picture before practice.

So far, Ryan’s three losses occurred against Red Division opponents: Archbishop Wood, Father Judge and La Salle. The team’s four wins include Blue Division teams Bonner-Prendie, Lansdale Catholic and non-league opponent Quakertown. The Raiders have a bye this week and will have ample time to prepare for their next league match-up against Roman Catholic next Saturday.

“We're resting, getting everyone back from injury. This week is a real mental week.” senior Billy Palmer said.
