VILLANOVA, PA – The Academy of Notre Dame remains undefeated in the Inter-Ac after beating Agnes Irwin 9-0 on Thursday.

Navy, gold and of course hot pink commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month colored Notre Dame’s field as the two teams met for another match-up after last week’s game that ended with a 10-2 win for ND.

ND’s theme this season is “Our Time” and Thursday’s game attested to that.

The team was aggressive from the start obtaining multiple corners throughout the first half, an advantage AI fell short on. ND capitalized on Agnes Irwin’s fouls and continually moved the ball down the field leaving their defense little time to setup.

Ten minutes into the first half senior forward and captain Quinn Maguire scored off of an assist from her senior co-captain Mary Kate Neff. A few seconds later, Maguire again came in for the second goal. From this point on, the shutout gained momentum.

By halftime, it was 6-0 with goals scored by Maguire, Sara Quigley and Riley Maher.

ND’s head coach Adele Williams said her team set a goal for this season.

“They want to go out and win it [the Inter-Ac] this year so basically they’ve done everything we’ve asked of them. They’re committed, they’re putting in the extra work and they’re just a really talented bunch,” said coach Williams.

Maguire totaled four goals throughout the game. She joins six other teammates who have already committed to D1 universities. Maguire committed to St. Joseph’s University her sophomore year.

Additionally, senior captain Mary Kate Neff had one goal. Neff has committed to Princeton University.

ND's goalie Katie Liebeskind had one save throughout the game, while AI's Paige DiLullo had 12. During the second half, Riley Maher put up another goal on the score board joined by Tina D'Anjolell's final goal.

Currently, ND holds 6-0 record in the competitive league. The team is gearing up for tough games next week against Archbishop John Carroll and longtime rival Episcopal Academy.

Neff believes this game has helped them prepare for EA next week.

“I think if we keep that attacking spirit going into EA we’re going to be really successful.”
