FORT WASHINGTON, PA - Germantown Academy defeated Agnes Irwin to advance to its third straight Inter-Ac volleyball final.  The Patriots will be looking for revenge against the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, which won the last two titles at their expense.

Germantown Academy had little trouble with Agnes Irwin in its home gym in Fort Washington on Tuesday.  GA won in straight sets, and rarely trailed in any game.  Head coach Dan Sullivan thinks his team is peaking at the right time.

“I’m just really thrilled with the way we played tonight,” Sullivan said.  “Last two times against Agnes Irwin we kind of fought ourselves and didn’t make it easy and kept them in the game; didn’t play inspiring volleyball.  This is the best we’ve looked all season, and that’s great to see going into a final.”

Sullivan hopes the third time is the charm against Notre Dame, which also beat his team twice this season on the way to finishing undefeated.

“We basically have to play the way we played tonight,” said Sullivan.  “Anything less we’re going to be in trouble.  They’re a real scrappy defensively sound team.  Balls hardly ever hit the floor cleanly.  We get hardly any clean kills against them.  So we just need to be able to match that defensively, continue to serve receive really well and put some pressure on them with our serve.”

Senior Emma Rapp impressed her coach with her service game in Tuesday’s win.  She is looking forward to the opportunity to end her career with a championship.

“I think it’s our chance at redemption because we lost to them the last two years,” Rapp said.  “I’m a senior.  I really want it.  I think we’ve been preparing mentally and physically for it and I think we’re going to be ready.  It’ll definitely be a good game no matter what the outcome is.  But we’re really excited.”
