PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle Explorers’ women’s soccer team (4-9-4 Overall, 3-3-2 A-10) looked to end on a high note as they finished their regular season this past week. Thursday night, the team took to their home field at McCarthy Stadium to match up against the George Mason Patriots.

Prior to the game, La Salle came off of a 0-0 draw against Saint Louis on Sunday Oct. 23rd for Senior Day. The Explorers have gone into overtime in seven games this season.

La Salle’s offensive possession started off strong as Danielle Marx sent the ball up the sideline to senior Deja Davis who put the ball into the back of the net just 12 minutes into the game.

Six minutes later, the roles reversed and Davis assisted on Marx’s goal, her third of the season to put the Explorers up 2-0. Davis took a free kick which was initially saved by Patriots goalkeeper, but Marx was in good position to head in the deflection.

La Salle’s defense played a strong first half to keep the Explorers’ lead going into the second half.

In the 62nd minute, Davis chipped the keeper to add another goal to the scoreboard for the blue and gold, which also marked her fifth goal of the season.

Kristin Haugstad, who assisted on the second Davis goal, added the fourth and final goal for the Explorers at the 83rd minute mark to secure the 4-0 win.

La Salle recorded their second straight shutout and their fifth of the year. Their offense also put up an impressive total of 22 shots, 9 on goal, while George Mason was limited to 4 shots total, 2 on goal.

The Explorers finished off their season away against Duquesne on Sunday, October 30th. Maci Bower scored for La Salle in the 85th minute to tie the game 1-1, sending both teams into overtime.  The first OT remained scoreless, but the Dukes prevailed in the second OT after Cydney Staton scored off a 10-yard breakaway.
