La Salle’s Inaugural Water Polo Season Comes To An End

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle’s men’s water polo team finished its inaugural home season on Friday at Kirk Pool against Mercyhurst. In their last match up, the Explorers fell short in Salem, West Virginia back on September 25.

The first quarter came in an end in favor of Mercyhurst, who led 4-0. La Salle cut the lead in half midway into the second quarter; however, the Lakers would tally 3 more goals before the end of the half to be up 7-2. 

La Salle’s offense picked up at the start of the second half with 6 goals, but ultimately the Explorers fell short, 13-8.

Despite the final score, La Salle led in shots with 10, while Explorers goaltender, Jacob Klingsberg, made seven saves.

For the blue and gold, Jacquez Stewart played in his first game of the season and tallied three goals. Captain, Jeff Brady contributed two goals alongside Alex Pitcher. Joey DeFusco and Tom Cionci recorded one assist each and Joel Gibson had four shots on goal.

The Explorers competed in the first round of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Western Tournament against Connecticut College on Saturday, November 5. Unfortunately, La Salle could not escape past the first round, and fell to Connecticut 19-9, thus ending the Explorers first season.
