PHILADELPHIA-- La Salle University’s men’s basketball team traveled to Hagan Arena to take on Atlantic 10 rival, the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, in Saturday night’s match up. The Explorers looked to recover after a tough loss to UPenn, but finished one point short to the Hawks 73-72 which extended their losing streak to three.

SJU dominated the Explorers throughout the first half, leading by eight points heading into the second half. However, La Salle senior Jordan Price’s early lay-up and three-pointer followed by a Demetrius Henry dunk put the Explorers within two.

Cleon Roberts and Tony Washington also chipped in to help the Explorers tighten the score as well as put them ahead 64-58 with 7:50 remaining in the game.

The lead would not last long as SJU went on a 7-1 run with five points from Charlie Brown which tied the score at 65 a piece with under six minutes remaining in the game.

The game turned intensely defensive as neither team would score a field goal until the final two minutes of the game. The game was tied at 70 as the clock ticked down after free throws from Brown and Henry.

Explorers’ junior Amar Stukes took a jump shot to put La Salle up by two, but James Demery of Saint Joseph’s put the Hawks within one after a foul shot.

With fourteen seconds left to play, Kimble Lamarr put the Hawks up by one off of a jump shot and Price’s missed layup opportunity sealed the SJU win.

Saint Joseph shot 48 percent from the floor while La Salle shot 39 percent. Chris Clover led the Hawks with 21 points while Jordan Price led the Blue and Gold with 21 points as well.
