PIAA Boys’ & Girls’ Basketball Playoffs -  A plethora of Catholic League teams – 13 to be exact – that qualified for the PIAA tournament has been whittled down to . . . six. All have advanced to the tournament semifinals.

   Not too shabby.

On Thursday night, West Catholic’s girls’ basketball team faced off against Sayre in the second round of the PIAA 2A tournament. The Lady Burrs walked away with a 51-37 victory. The win marked the first time in school history that the Lady Burrs made it to the state quarterfinals. Unfortunately, their state run ended Sunday afternoon after losing a tough battle to Minersville 75-58.

As of late Sunday night, here is the upcoming schedule:

Class 6A Cardinal O’Hara’s girls will meet Boyertown at 7:30 at Spring-Ford High School after defeating North Penn, 51-45. Neumann-Goretti’s 3A girls trampled Holy Redeemer, 71-49, and will play York Catholic on Tuesday at Garden Spot High School at 7:30. Archbishop Wood’s 5A girls blitzed Wyoming Valley West, 61-35, and will take on Susquehannock Tuesday at Governor Mifflin High School at 7:00.

Neumann-Goretti’s Class 3A boys outlasted Lancaster Mennonite, 69-56, and will face Del-Val Charter at Temple University’s Liacouras Center Tuesday evening at 6:00. Archbishop Ryan’s Class 6A boys stopped Hempfield, 60-50, and will meet Reading High School Tuesday following the Saints match-up at the Liacouras center at 7:30. Archbishop Wood’s Class 5A boys easily thwarted Spring Grove, 71-46, and are scheduled for a contest versus Abington Heights also on Tuesday evening at Bethlehem High School at 7:30.
