DREXEL HILL, PA – Another super season continues for the Archbishop Carroll High School girls’ lacrosse team. The Patriots traveled to take on the Bonner & Prendergast Pandas Tuesday, April 24, 2018 and walked off of the field with a 19-3 victory.

With this outcome, Carroll remained undefeated at 4-0 in Philadelphia Catholic League (PCL) action on the year. Much of the success would not be possible without the entire team working together. That continued when taking on Prendie as 18 different players tallied a minimum of one goal on the day.

“We came out and played as a team,” said Carroll’s Rachel Matey. “We work together well. You play the same way every game.”

Prendie dropped to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the league. Taking on the defending state champion put the Pandas in a different mindset.

“They’re a very good team,” said head coach Amanda McCloskey. “We were a little timid, as always. That doesn’t work in our favor.”

Matey scored just 18 seconds in to the contest and the score simply increased from that point onward. Alex Cabahug-Almonte led the way for the Patriots with two goals and four assists. Katie Detwiler added a goal with three assists and 19 draw controls. Carroll held a 16-0 advantage after the first period.

The Patriots win the draw and drive to the goal:

The second half was different. Prendie was all ready to start anew and it showed. Daly Ewing found the net to put her team on the scoreboard. Teammate Lindsey Fagan also scored followed by Carly Brosious.

“We told them to just win the half and just play,” said McCloskey. “We were trying a different game plan.”

Goalkeeper Katrina Corgan paced the Panda defense.

“I came in to the second half more confident,” said Corgan. “Everyone went in more confident working together.”

The regular season is drawing to a close in only a few short weeks. Carroll has taken home the PCL trophy for the last 17 straight years.

“We can do it again,” said Matey. “Every day is a new day.”

Prendie also has its mind on the playoffs. It fell to Carroll in the Catholic League semifinal round last year and is hoping to reach the title game this time around. While its squad is young at this point with three seniors, the sophomore class has a lot of talent and so things are looking up going in to the future.

“It’s only going to get better from here,” said McCloskey.

Bonner & Prendie and Carroll return to PCL action Tuesday, May 1, on their respective home fields at 3:45 PM. The Patriots take on Archbishop Wood. The Pandas host Bishop McDevitt.

“I think we can only get better from here,” said Corgan. “We have to bounce back.”
